My Many Memories of Mom

Mom divorced My Dad when I was two years old, my brother and I for a long time blamed ourselves. Maybe we were so bad that he left us. But when we got older we realized that our parents were just crazy!! LOL   Through not fault of our own. When I was about 5years old, Mom left for California. She met our current Dad and got married at the Justice of the peace in shorts and a tank top. Afterward Mom came and got us to go to California and meet our step father.  We spent weekends at the beach building bonfires and having fun. I went to kindergarten and my brother went to first grade. Mom would walk us to school in the morning and our neighbor would drop us at home after school. When entering our apartment we would hear the music to a big time game show and mom would have us a snack ready, then it was time for homework.   We use to team up against Mom , just to get our way. One time, we wanted an ice cream sooooo bad that we cleaned our rooms and the rest of the house before Mom got up.  She would be surprised and asked what are you two up to?  Nothing Momma, after we finish the dishes can we have an ice cream. She would say no it will rot your teeth.  So we would just sit around mopping til she gave in.  She would tell Dad to get the rock salt and ice cream machine down.  Then ask what flavor we wanted.  Mom was the best cook, not that gourmet food, but the down home comfort food.  Like roast, beans, corn bread, and stewed potatoes and a cold glass of buttermilk.   Then the next day she would take the potatoes and add to mac-n-cheese, oh that was some good eating, but nothing beat her biscuits and gravy. I would sit on a stool and watch as Mom would create her master pieces in the kitchen. She could clean a house quicker than anyone I know. Well when I was about 7 years old a little sister came along, then came a little brother and another little brother after that.  That made a total of five of us kids to scheme our way to Mom and Dad's Last Nerve!!!  LOL
Well the years flew by, Mom was about 30 when she started having alot of aches and pains. She was diagnosed with Crippling Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalga.  Then she started coughing and wheezing so COPD was added to the list. She suffered for a long time with it.  In the last couple of years before she passed on to glory, she would beg and plead for the lord to let her come home. I could do nothing but be there to hold and comfort her when she would have bad spells. One day while Dad and I were at work the alarm company called and said Mom had fallen and wanted us to both come home to find her lifeless body. The EMT's were already there working on her.  It was December 23rd when they took Mom to the hospital. The 25th she was placed in the Hospice Center and on the 27th she passed away. Family and Friends all gather in our home for the wake. Mom would have been surprised how many showed up.
